Parvo Emergency Tea Recipe

If your puppy or adult dog already has Parvo, or is showing any signs of this virus, and you're waiting for your ParvoBuster® Kit to arrive, then you need to make and administer this Parvo Emergency Tea Recipe immediately to prevent puppy and dog dehydration.

Emergency Tea Ingredients

The following ingredients can be found in most major supermarkets with pharmacies and/or health food stores:

2 cups of Oatmeal Water, which is natural, chemical-free and makes a perfect electrolyte fluid. To make the Oatmeal Water, you will need half a cup of oatmeal, one teaspoon of salt (any sort of salt is fine - table salt, sea salt, etc.), and one third of a cup of maple or pancake syrup (preferably organic).
2 teabags of chamomile tea (a good source is Bigelow's Cozy Chamomile or Celestial Seasonings' Chamomile). DO NOT GET TEA THAT CONTAINS CAFFEINE.
2 tea bags of herbal Spearmint with Peppermint tea (a good source is Bigelow's Mint Medley or Celestial Seasonings' Mint Magic). If the mixture is not available, find spearment and peppermint teas separately and use 1 tea bag of each. If only one is available (e.g. Peppermint) use 2 tea bags. DO NOT GET TEA THAT CONTAINS CAFFEINE.
2 capsules of Echinacea. (This can usually be found in the vitamin section near the pharmacy.)
250mg of ginger. This would be better in the veggie-cap format, from the vitamin section of the store, but if necessary, you can buy ground ginger from the cooking / spice section, in which case you should just use a sprinkle or two.
Italian Seasoning. Our recommended product, which is made by McCormick, contains Basil, Marjoram, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage, Savory and Thyme, but if you can't locate this exact brand, the ingredients you should try to get are Basil, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. (This can usually be found in the cooking / spice section.)
1 teaspoon of maple (preferably organic and pure) or pancake syrup (preferably organic).
250mg of MSM. It doesn't matter whether the MSM includes either Glucosamine or Chondroitin. Note that this ingredient is optional, so if you can't find it, don't worry.
250mg of White Willow Bark, if your dog has a fever (i.e. a temperature of 103F or higher). Note that this ingredient is optional, so if you can't find it, don't worry.

Note:

• Other websites also offer a Parvo Emergency Tea recipe but we advise you not to use theirs, because they include garlic in their recipes. In our experience, dealing with thousands of cases of Parvo (5,344 and counting), even a small amount of garlic in this home remedy can cause increased vomiting and/or diarrhea, so we recommend that you leave this ingredient out, as that's the last thing you need if your dog is already suffering from Parvo.

Preparing The Emergency Tea

Use Accurate Measuring Devices! It is important that you measure out all of the different ingredients accurately. We therefore recommend that you use measuring cups and measuring spoons, as appropriate (i.e. measuring cups for the water and Oatmeal Water, and measuring spoons for the salt and maple or pancake syrup). Note that, when you order a Parvo Treatment Kit, you will also need to know how to use an eye dropper as well.) 1. Make the Oatmeal Water:
1. Boil half a gallon (i.e. eight cups) of water.
2. Add the half cup of oatmeal, one teaspoon of salt and one third cup of maple or pancake syrup, and give it a really good stir, to mix it all in.
3. Take it off the heat.
4. Let it sit for 20 minutes.
5. Strain off the oatmeal, but keep this in the refrigerator for later, as most dogs love oatmeal, and it's good for them.
6. The liquid that is left is the Oatmeal Water.
2. Heat 2 cups of Oatmeal Water until it is hot, but DO NOT BOIL IT.
3. Add the following ingredients to the heated Oatmeal Water:
• 2 tea bags of mint tea
• 2 tea bags of chamomile tea
• the contents of 2 capsules of Echinacea
• 1 teaspoon of maple or pancake syrup
• 6 sprinkles of Italian Seasoning (or if you couldn't find this product, one sprinkle each of the individual herbs you could find)
• 250mg of ginger
• 250mg of MSM (if you could find it)
• 250mg of White Willow Bark (if you could find it)
4. Stir it well.
5. Let it cool for 20 minutes.
6. Remove any non-liquid ingredients (e.g. the tea bags, and any bits of herbs, etc.).

Hot Tip! When straining the Parvo Tea, one of our customers, Julie, recommends using cheesecloth to get rid of any remaining bits of herbs, etc.

Administering The Emergency Tea

Using the following chart as a guide, you should give any sick dogs (i.e. dogs showing Parvo symptoms) one dose of the Parvo Tea every single hour - no breaks, which does mean that you need to do this throughout the night as well.

Note:

• Add an additional tablespoon (or 15ml/cc) to the 9 tablespoons for each 10 lbs of body weight over 100 lbs.

This is what a typical feeding syringe, available from most good pet stores such as Petco, looks like, but please make sure you buy the correct size for your dogs, as per the chart above, and remember to buy a separate one for each dog that you need to treat, to avoid cross-contamination.

This tea is most effective if it is given when warm. You can either run the oral syringe under warm tap water, or you can also put the recommended dose of tea in a small glass and place it in a larger bowl containing hot water and allow the tea to warm up. Do not microwave the tea.

Bonus Parvo Home Remedy

Dogs with Parvo typically stop eating, in which case you should put maple or pancake syrup (preferably organic) on your dog's gums every hour. You obviously need to make sure that your fingers are really clean, and that you dab (not rub) the maple or pancake syrup on very gently so as not to hurt your dog. Alternatively, you can use a Q-tips cotton swab to apply the maple or pancake syrup.

This will help to boost your dog's blood sugar levels, which will start to drop as soon as he stops eating.
